In the footsteps of the artists who magnified Provence

Provence! The name evokes images of sunshine and olives groves, fields of lavender and vineyards. It is also a sun-drenched land whose dazzling clarity was famous by such renowned painters as Van Gogh, Cézanne, Chagall or Matisse.
This trip takes you in the footsteps of these great artists from Aix-en-Provence to Nice.

PROGRAM

DAY 1 – AIX-EN-PROVENCE & PAUL CEZANNE
Bathed in light all year round, welcome to Aix-en-Provence, in the heart of Provence.
Elegant and refined, this city is rich in historical heritage, housed in the famous Mont Sainte-Victoire,
so often painted by Paul Cezanne.
Transfer to your hotel and lunch at a local restaurant.
Connect with Paul Cezanne’s spirit on a guided walk through the heart of Aix-en-Provence,
from his birthplace, to his last home in Saint-Pierre cemetery.
Dinner and night in Aix-en-Provence, 4-star **** hôtel.


DAY 2 – AROUND THE MOUNTAIN OF « LA SAINTE VICTOIRE »
After your breakfast,
Continue and enter the artist’s universe by exploring Aix-en-Provence countryside.
Discover the emblematic places of his works, the "Bastide Jas de Bouffan",
the "Carrières de Bibémus" and the "Château du Tholonet".

After the lunch break,
The pilgrimage continues with a visit to the town of Gardanne
where the painter lived for fifteen months in 1885 – 1886.
Gardanne is the only village painted by Cézanne and represents a turning point in his work.
Dinner and overnight in the same hotel.


DAY 3 – ON VAN GOGH FOOTSTEPS
Breakfast.
Guided tour of Arles where Vincent lived for more than a year and experienced great productivity.
During his stay the artist did about 300 drawings and paintings.
He developed an expressive, individual painting style characterised by bold colours and dynamic brushstrokes.
Lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon continue your discovery by visiting Saint Paul de Mausole Monastery
in the lovely town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
Very famous as the place Vincent van Gogh sought refuge from May 1889 for a year,
but also a genuine masterpiece of Provençal Romanesque architecture in its own right.
This place inspired Van Gogh where he produced many canvas.
Dinner and overnight in Les Baux-de-Provence, 4-star **** hotel.


DAY 4 – FROM PROVENCE TO THE FRENCH RIVIERA
Breakfast.
Enjoy the spectacular projected light show mounted in the man-made caverns
of a huge limestone quarry near Les Baux de Provence
and take the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Lunch at a local restaurant.
Discover Marc Chagall’s Mediterranean and Saint-Paul years through tales of his life,
his artistic work, and his tomb in the village cemetery.
Dinner and overnight in Saint Paul de Vence, 4-star **** hotel


DAY 5 – RENOIR & MATISSE
Breakfast.
Guided tour of the museum and the house of Renoir in Cagnes sur Mer.
Discover some of his works and the places where they were created.
Lunch at a local restaurant,
Enjoy visiting Matisse’s museum, where the artist left a fabulous collection of his works.
Enjoy a free dinner in the old town.
Overnight at Nice, 4-star **** hotel


DAY 6 – MARC CHAGALL
After breakfast,
to conclude your trip, let’s go to explore the rich collection and discover
Marc Chagall’s museum in Nice, including the 17 canvases making up the Biblical Message.
